A lot of people want to create and publish their work/articles online but doesn't know how to code a website or where to start. Using wordpress makes that easier, you don't need to be an expert in html or know how to code, anyone can publish their site online after learning the basics of wordpress in a few minutes. before we start we need to do the following: Domain So have you thought of a domain name?  what is a domain name?

  • A domain name is the name of your site, its usually written in lower-case.

Register a Domain There are two choices to go for in registering a domain

  • Top-Level-Domain (TLD) - is one of the domains at the highest level in the hierarchical Domain Name System of the Internet (this is a paid service, usually annually).
  • Subdomain - is a domain that is part of a larger domain (this service is free).

Hosting

  • Hosting is to store a website or other electronic data on a computer connected to the Internet.

You can find a lot of hosting sites that gives free website hosting as well as getting a free subdomain. Just type the keyword "free hosting" in your favorite search engine and it will show you tons of results about hosting sites that's giving the free service. After registering a domain and a host, the hosting provider will email you the details of your site like username and password for the control panel, their nameservers and stuff like ftp details etc., next thing we need to do is:

  1. Download and extract wordpress
  2. Download a ftp software (I recommend filezilla) and install it
  3. Run the ftp software and at the top you'll see something like this:
    • Host
    • Username
    • Password
    • Port
  4. Enter your ftp details then hit Quickconnect

Uploading Files Though some hosting providers offer an autoinstaller for wordpress, others don't, so we will be uploading the wordpress files manually. In the filezilla screen, you'll see 4 sections:

  • Command line (top)
  • Local site (left)
  • Remote site (right)
  • Progress section

What we need to do is upload the whole contents of you wordpress inside the public folder of the remote site. You may find minor problems when uploading the files like "failed transfers", all you need to do if you ever encounter this problem with filezilla is go to "failed transfer" tab and right click the file or window then chose "reset and requeue all".
